Music and the Soul

Music and the Soul

There is something my mother did give me that I am thankful for….a love for music. Growing up, her preference was was classic rock and jazz. My very first concert at 3 or 4, that I vaguely remember, was Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat. I am certain I also danced with Ted Nugent at a bar after.

I 100% believe that you are either born with a love for music or not. (based on my observation of raising kids) There is nothing wrong if you are born without it, but I will most definitely question whether we can be friends or not if you don’t know who Led Zeppelin is.

Music has been a part of my life, my entire life. It has had its place for age, season, chapter, heart break, celebration…..it marks moments in time. Now, when I hear songs it takes me right back to a place or time, or a person, or an event in my life.

Stop and think for just a moment. Your first crush, first school dance, the skating rink, first concert, first vinyl (8-track/tape/CD), first boyband, first club experience, first mosh pit, friends and experiences from decades ago, your wedding song, maybe an anthem song you play when you overcome something really hard, maybe you have lost someone super special to you and when you hear a certain song, all the memories flood right back in. Whatever it is, the music lives with you forever. I can remember lyrics from songs in the 80’s but cant remember why I walked into the kitchen half the time! LOL

Music is also how I worship. I can feel it to the bottom of my soul. It reaches all the way to heaven and back and i am so grateful Jesus gave that to me. Now, I am still a little erked he did NOT give me the ability to sing, but whatever. 🙂

Most of our kids also love music and have brought all kinds of artists, bands and genres into my life that I am so thankful for.

So, if you ever want to join along or need music to listen to, I have added one of my many playlists to the home page.

Also, I take requests!

Love, TB
