She is called “Amy”

Before I left for my trip I had a conversation and was encouraged to ask God what he calls me. I wrote it in my journal, along with other things I wanted to address and off I went.

As I drove into the north side of Big Sur I had zero plans. No clue where or if I would be staying overnight. There are not “hotels” and cabins are booked for months out, if not years. I stopped at a little geral store to grab a beverage and as I was walking out the door I stopped, closed the door, and asked the lady behind the counter if they by any chance have a cabin available. She turned and looked at me “actually, I JUST had a cancellation for tonight..but its by the river, is that ok?” !!!!! Is that OK? Yes Jane, Yes that is perfectly fine. I was so stoked that it didn’t even occur to me what I might be getting myself in to. LOL (the whole “no fear” thing is another blog on its own someday LOL)

Yall, Jesus was preparing such a beautiful, sweet and much needed space for what was to come the next 3 days.

On day 2, I was sitting on a rock watching, listening, smelling and just taking it all in. I was praying about something and the name “Amy” popped into my head. I started scanning my friends thinking i needed to pray for a friend name Amy. Guess what, I’m not close to any Amy’s right now. My second thought was “there’s not an Amy in the bible, is there?. Nope, there isnt. LOL I put the name aside and continued exploring for the day. When i got back to my cabin that night, the thought returned. So I did what we all do now, I googled it. Turns out Amy means: Beloved, dearly loved. I believe Jesus speaks to each individual person in a way that will get THEIR attention. Had I thought of the word “beloved” I would have doubted it. But to give me an actual name, that’s something I can chomp on.

Amy Carmichael (1867–1951): An Irish Christian missionary who served in India for 55 years, opening an orphanage and founding the Dohnavur Fellowship to rescue children. Known as “Amma” (mother) to the children she saved, she was a deeply respected, almost mystical figure whose life of sacrifice is documented in biographies like A Chance to Die. Carmichael’s most notable work was with girls and young women, some of whom were rescued from customs that amounted to forced prostitution.

That night, a decision was made to start working on being kinder to myself. To extend grace to myself. So, I sat out by the river and made a list of positive names I call myself.

  • Loved
  • Strong, resilient
  • Fearless survivor
  • Mother, GiGi, Daughter, Sister, Friend

  • She has to hold on, but she needs to let go
  • She must start living, not just surviving
  • She has to stop criticizing herself, she needs to believe she is worthy as she is
  • She is broken, but she is finding the pieces along the way
  • She wants to give up, but she must have faith in the seeds already planted
  • She wants to close up the shutters, but she also wants to dance in the rain
  • She carries heavy burdens, but she wants to make it look effortless
  • She overcomes every obstacle, and she will continue to
  • She feels like the fire is meant to destroy her, she reminds herself its meant to strengthen and refine her
  • Shes finally realizing shes not in control, but shes in control of how she responds and reacts
  • Shes no longer wrestling in the shadows, she is learning to live in the light
  • She feels she might just bend and break at any moment, but she is too deeply rooted
  • She doesn’t want anyone to save her, she wants to save herself this time
  • She tells herself she is doing it all wrong, but she awakes every day to start again
  • She could easily just see the dark, but she chooses to see the light and beauty around her
  • She is loved beyond measure, she knows that.

Love,

TB
